Waking & Sleeping

Before Sleeping

بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي، وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، فَإِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Transliteration: Bismika rabbee wadaAAtu janbee wabika arfaAAuh, fa-in amsakta nafsee farhamha, wa-in arsaltaha fahfathha bima tahfathu bihi AAibadakas-saliheen.
Translation: In Your name my Lord, I lie down and in Your name I rise, so if You should take my soul then have mercy upon it, and if You should return my soul then protect it in the manner You do so with Your righteous servants.

اللّٰہُمَّ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا. اللّٰہُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ العَافِيَةَ
Transliteration: Allahumma khalaqta nafsee wa-anta tawaffaha laka mamatuha wamahyaha in ahyaytaha fahfathha, wa-in amattaha faghfir laha. Allahumma innee as-alukal-AAafiyah.
Translation: O Allah, You have created my soul and it is for You to take it in death. Its death and its life are in Your Hand. If You cause it to live then protect it and if You cause it to die then forgive it. O Allah, I ask you to keep me safe and sound.

اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ
Transliteration: Allahumma qinee AAathabaka yawma tabAAathu AAibadak.
Translation: O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the day Your servants are resurrected.

بِاسْـمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Transliteration: Bismikal-lahumma amootu wa-ahya.
Translation: In Your name O Allah, I live and die.

When you wake up

اَلۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰہِ الَّذِیۡ أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahil-lathee ahyana baAAda ma amatana wa-ilayhin-nushoor.
Translation: All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection.

اَلۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰہِ الَّذِیۡ عَافَانِي فِي جَسَدِي، وَرَدَّ عَلَيَّ رُوحِي، وَأَذِنَ لِي بِذِكْرِهِ
Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahil-lathee AAafanee fee jasadee waradda AAalayya roohee wa-athina lee bithikrih.
Translation: All praise is for Allah who restored to me my health and returned my soul and has allowed me to remember Him.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ، سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاللّٰہُ اَکۡبَرُ ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
Transliteration: La ilaha illal-lahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul-hamd, wahuwa AAala kulli shay-in qadeer, subhanal-lah, walhamdu lillah, wala ilaha illal-lah wallahu akbar, wala hawla wala quwwata illa billahil-AAaliyyil AAatheem. Rabbigh-fir lee
Translation: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, with no partner or associate. His is the dominion and all praise is to Him, and He is Able to do all things. Glory is to Allah, praise is to Allah, none has the right to be worshiped but Allah, Allah is the Most Great, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Supreme. O Lord, forgive me.

Toilet & Ablution

Before entering toilet

اللَّهُـمَّ إِنِّي أَعُـوذُ بِـكَ مِـنَ الْخُـبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
Transliteration: Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min al-khubuthi wal khaba'ith
Translation: O Allah, I take refuge with you from all evil and evil-doers.

After leaving toilet

غُفۡرَانَکَ
Transliteration: Ghufranak
Translation: I ask You (Allah) for forgiveness.

When starting ablution

بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ
Transliteration: Bismil-lah
Translation: In the name of Allah.

When completing ablution

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
Transliteration: Ashhadu an la ilaha illal-lahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, wa-ashhadu anna Muhammadan AAabduhu warasooluh.
Translation: I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
Transliteration: Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan-abduhu wa rasuluhu, Allahummajalni minat tawwabin, waj’alni minal mutatahhirin.
Translation: I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. O Allah, make me of those who return to You often in repentance and make me of those who remain clean and pure.

Home & Travel

When Leaving Home

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ تَوَكَّلْـتُ عَلَى اللّٰهِ، لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُـوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللّٰهِ
Transliteration: Bismil-lah, tawakkaltu AAalal-lah, La hawla wala quwwata illa billah.
Translation: In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ أَوْ أُضَلَّ أَوْ أَزِلَّ أَوْ أُزَلَّ أَوْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ أَوْ أَجْهَلَ أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَىَّ
Transliteration: Allahumma innee aAAoothu bika an adilla aw odal, aw azilla aw ozall, aw athlima aw othlam, aw ajhala aw yujhala AAalay.
Translation: O Allah, I take refuge with You lest I should stray or be led astray, or slip or be tripped, or oppress or be oppressed, or behave foolishly or be treated foolishly.’ slip: i.e. to commit a sin unintentionally

Upon Entering Home

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللّٰهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
Transliteration: Bismil-lahi walajna, wabismil-lahi kharajna, waAAalallahi rabbina tawakkalna.
Translation: In the name of Allah we enter and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust.

When going up the Stairs / Ascending a high place

اَللّٰہُ اَکۡبَرُ
Transliteration: Allahu Akbar
Translation: Allah is the Most Great!

سُبْحَانَ اللّٰه
Transliteration: Subhan Allah

For travel

سُبۡحٰنَ الَّذِیۡ سَخَّرَ لَنَا ہٰذَا وَ مَا کُنَّا لَہٗ مُقۡرِنِیۡنَ ۙ وَ اِنَّا اِلٰی رَبِّنَا لَمُنۡقَلِبُوۡنَ
Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.
Translation: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.

While returning from travel

اللّٰهُ اَکۡبَرُ ، اللّٰهُ اَکۡبَرُ ، اللّٰهُ اَکۡبَرُ ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ سَاجِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ، صَدَقَ اللّٰهُ وَعْدَهُ وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ
Transliteration: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa alaa kulli shay in Qadeer, aaiboona, taaiboona, aabidoona, saajidoona, lirabbinaa haamidoona, sadaqallaahu wadahu, wa nasara abdahu, wa hazamal-ahzaaba wahdahu.
Translation: Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things omnipotent. We return, repent, worship and praise our Lord. Allah fulfilled His promise, aided His Servant, and single-handedly defeated the allies.

When night approaches during Travel

يَا أَرْضُ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكِ اللّٰهُ أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ شَرِّكِ وَشَرِّ مَا فِيكِ وَشَرِّ مَا خُلِقَ فِيكِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَدِبُّ عَلَيْكِ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ أَسَدٍ وَأَسْوَدَ وَمِنَ الْحَيَّةِ وَالْعَقْرَبِ وَمِنْ سَاكِنِ الْبَلَدِ وَمِنْ وَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
Transliteration: Ya Ardh! Rabbi wa Rabbukillah, audhu billah min sharraki wa sharri ma fiki, wa sharri ma khuliqa fiki, wa min sharri ma yadibbu alaik, wa audhu billahi min asadin wa aswada wa minal-hayati wal-aqrabi, wa min sakinil-balad, wa min walidin wama walad
Translation: O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah; I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil of what you contain, the evil of what has been created in you, and the evil of what creeps upon you; I seek refuge in Allah from lions, from large black snakes, from other snakes, from scorpions, from the evil of jinn which inhabit a settlement, and from a parent and his offspring.

For accommodation

رَّبِّ اَنۡزِلۡنِیۡ مُنۡزَلًا مُّبٰرَکًا وَّ اَنۡتَ خَیۡرُ الۡمُنۡزِلِیۡنَ
Transliteration: Rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakanwaanta khayru almunzileen
Translation: My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].

Before sleeping at night during travel

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللّٰهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Transliteration: A’oothu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaqa
Translation: I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

Food & Drink

When beginning a meal

بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ
Transliteration: Bismil-lah
Translation: In the name of Allah.

After finishing a meal

اَلۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰہِ الَّذِیۡ أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
Transliteration: Alhamdulilahil ladhi at’amana, wasaqana, waj’alna min-al Muslimeen
Translation: Praise be to Allah Who has fed us and given us drink and made us Muslims.

When given a drink

اللَّهُمَّ أَطْعِمْ مَنْ أَطْعَمَنِي وَأَسْقِ مَنْ أَسْقَانِي
Transliteration: Allahumma at’im man at’amani, wasqi man asaqani
Translation: O Allah! Feed him who fed me and give him drink who gave me to drink.

Upon drinking milk

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ
Transliteration: Allahumma baarik lana feehi wa zidna minhu
Translation: O Allah! Bless us in it and give us increase of it.

When dining at someone's house

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ
Transliteration: Allahumma barik lahum feema razaqtahum, waghfir lahum, war hamhum
Translation: O Allah! Bless them in what You have provided for them, and forgive them and have Mercy on them.

For someone who offers you a meal

اللَّهُمَّ أَطْعِمْ مَنْ أَطْعَمَنِي وَأَسْقِ مَنْ أَسْقَانِي
Transliteration: Allahumma at’im man at’amani, wasqi man asaqani
Translation: O Allah! Feed him who fed me and give him drink who gave me to drink.

When opening your fast

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ
Transliteration: Allahumma laka sumtu wa ala rizq-ika-aftartu
Translation: O Allah! For You I have fasted and upon your provision, I have broken my fast.

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ
Transliteration: Dhahaba al-zama’ wa abtalat al-‘urooq wa thabata al-ajr in sha Allaah
Translation: Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is certain if Allaah wills.

For someone who provides you with Iftar

أَفْطَرَ عِنْدَكُمُ الصَّائِمُونَ وَأَكَلَ طَعَامَكُمُ الأَبْرَارُ وَصَلَّتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ
Transliteration: Aftara ‘indakumus-saimun, wa akala ta’amakumul-abrar, wa sallat ‘alaikumul- mala’ikah
Translation: May the fasting (men) break their fast with you, and the pious eat your food, and the angels pray for blessing on you.

If one forgets to mention Allah at the beginning

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ
Transliteration: Bismillah, fi awwalihi wa akhirih
Translation: In the Name of Allah at the beginning and at the end.

Clothing & Appearance

While wearing clothes

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ
Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahil-lathee kasanee hadhath-thawba warazaqaneehi min ghayri hawlin minnee wala quwwah.
Translation: All Praise is for Allah who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, with no power or might from myself.

When wearing new clothes

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيهِ أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِهِ وَخَيْرِ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ
Transliteration: Allaahumma lakal-hamdu ‘Anta kasawtaneehi, ‘as’aluka min khayrihi wa khayri maa suni’a lahu, wa ‘a’oothu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni’a lahu
Translation: O Allah, praise is to You. You have clothed me. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what it has been made for, and I seek Your protection from the evil of it and the evil of what it has been made for.

When looking into the mirror

اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي
Transliteration: Allahumma aḥassanta khalqee fa ḥassin khuluqee
Translation: O Allah! You have given me good physical shape so grant me a good attitude.
